Research Process
Overview
For our CyberFair project, Taiwan’s Semiconductors: The Lead to Future Technologies, we designed a systematic research process to understand how Taiwan’s semiconductor industry drives technological advancement and supports the global community. Our research focused not only on technical knowledge but also on how collaboration and innovation reflect the CyberFair theme, Contribute and Unite.
We began with background research to build a solid foundation.
Using government reports, industry publications, and educational resources, we studied the structure of the semiconductor industry, including chip design, wafer fabrication, packaging, and testing. We also examined the historical development of Taiwan’s semiconductor sector and how long-term government support, science parks, and higher education helped establish a globally competitive industry.
Next, we analyzed Taiwan’s three major science parks—Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan.
We explored how these parks connect companies, research institutions, and universities, creating an environment that encourages innovation, talent development, and efficient knowledge sharing. This helped us understand why Taiwan plays such a critical role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
To gain real-world perspectives, we conducted three expert interviews with professionals from different areas of the semiconductor industry.
Each interview provided insights into materials engineering, advanced packaging and testing, production management, and future technological challenges. Through these discussions, we learned that the semiconductor industry relies heavily on teamwork and cross-industry cooperation rather than individual efforts.
After collecting our data, we carefully analyzed and organized the information.
We compared interview insights with our background research to identify key challenges such as sustainability, energy consumption, cleanroom requirements, and the growing complexity of advanced semiconductor technologies. This step allowed us to better understand how Taiwan’s semiconductor industry continues to adapt and innovate in a rapidly changing world.
