Overview

This section explains why we chose this topic and what we hope to learn from our research.

Motivation

Our First Understanding

Before starting this project, our understanding of semiconductors was very simple. We thought chips were just small parts inside 3C products that made phones, computers, and other devices work. They felt distant and unimportant because we could not see them, even though we used electronic products every day.

Realizing Their Importance

However, as technology continues to develop, semiconductors have become deeply connected to our daily lives. From smartphones and laptops to artificial intelligence, transportation, and medical equipment, almost everything relies on chips. We began to realize that without semiconductors, modern society could not function normally.

Why We Chose This Topic

We chose semiconductors as our CyberFair topic because Taiwan plays a critical role in the global semiconductor industry. Taiwan is not only a major manufacturing center, but also a key partner for many countries and companies around the world. Through chip design, wafer manufacturing, and packaging and testing, Taiwan supports global technology development and connects international supply chains.

What We Discovered

As Taiwanese students, we wanted to better understand how this important industry works and why it matters to the world. Through research and interviews with industry professionals, we discovered that semiconductors are not the result of one company or one country, but of cooperation across different fields, industries, and nations.

Our Project Idea

This is why we named our project “Taiwan’s Semiconductors: The Lead to Future Technologies.” Semiconductors contribute to our daily lives by powering modern technology, and they unite people, companies, and countries through collaboration and shared innovation. By studying this topic, we hope to help others see how something so small can have such a big impact on both Taiwan and the world.

Study Purpose

Understanding Taiwan’s Role

The purpose of our study is to understand how Taiwan’s semiconductor industry contributes to the world and connects people through technology. Before starting this project, we only knew that chips were inside electronic devices, but we did not understand how important they are to daily life or the global economy.

Learning the Semiconductor Process

Through research and interviews with professionals from different semiconductor companies, we aim to learn how chips are designed, manufactured, packaged, and tested. We also want to understand how different companies and countries work together in the semiconductor supply chain. This helps us see why Taiwan plays such a key role in providing reliable and high-quality chips to the world.

Exploring Industry Challenges

Another goal of our study is to explore the challenges faced by the semiconductor industry, such as high energy use, material development, and the need for skilled workers. By learning about these issues, we can better understand why innovation, teamwork, and responsibility are important for the future of this industry.

What We Hope to Share

Overall, this project helps us realize that semiconductors are not just small parts inside devices. They are a powerful force that contributes to global technology and unites people, companies, and countries. Through this study, we hope to share Taiwan’s story with the world and help others understand how semiconductors connect our daily lives to the global community.
